Farmington PA

Farmington PA is a small mountain community located in the Laurel Highland Mountains in Fayette County. Farmington is approximately 15 minutes from Uniontown.

There are many fun things to do in Farmington! History Buffs will love the area. Fort Neccesity National Battlefield and Braddocks Grave. If you prefer Golfing or Skiing be sure to visit Nemacolin Woodlands. This 5 star resort offers 36 holes of championship golf with breaktaking mountain views. Relax at the Spa or take a spin at the Off Road Driving Academy and learn to drive a Hummer. Winter brings downhill and cross country skiing opportunities. Farmington is close to Ohiopyle PA where you can enjoy whitewater rafting and kayaking as well as hiking and biking.

Brownsville PA

Brownsville PA is located in the western most portion of Fayette County along the Monongahela River, about 35 miles south of Pittsburgh. Brownsville is home to Nemacolin Castle, a 22 room house museum, Dunlops Bridge - the first Cast Iron Bridge in America, Frank L Melaga Art Museum, the Flat Iron Building. The Historic Thompson House Restaurant is also located in Brownsville. Brownsville Area Revitalization Corporation is an organization that promotes revitalizing Brownsville. There are many buildings in Brownsville that have fallen into disrepair. BARC is a 501c3 non-profit charitable organization governed by an 11 member board of directors who meet monthly. BARC's goal is to rebuild Brownsville into a thriving town.

If you are looking for a great vacation spot or weekend trip consider Ohiopyle PA. You will find miles of hiking and biking trails along the river. If you like water sports, try kayaking or rafting. Ohiopyle offers Class IV rapids. In addition, there are many restaurants and shops in Ohiopyle. Ohiopyle is just minutes away from Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob. Whether you are an active sportsman or prefer relaxing Ohiopyle is a great place to visit !

Storey Square Summer Series continues

Every Monday evening thru August 25th from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. - Storey Square Summer
Series & Farmers' Market event will he held in Downtown Uniontown. Live music and food in the center of downtown Uniontown at Storey Square, sponsored by the Downtown Business District Authority. Includes locally-grown fruits, vegetables, plants, fresh flowers along with baked goods, handmade crafts, and candles. H.R. 3221 - First Time Buyers may qualify for Tax Credt

H.R. 3221, the American Housing Rescue and Foreclosure Prevention Act of 2008 has passd. 

This bill includes a temporary, $7,500 first-time home buyer tax credit which many believe will jump start the housing market and bring first time buyers off the sidelines. This $7500 tax credit would be available for any qualified purchase between April 8, 2008 and June 30, 2009. The credit is repayable over 15 years.

Fayette County PA Hospital News

The Former Tara Hospital in Brownsville will Re-open as the new Brownsville Tri-County Hospital.  The dedication ceremony is scheduled for 10 am, July 31, 2008.

Uniontown Hospital continues progress on it's expansion.  The expansion includes a new emergency department to offer the most advanced care in the region, reconfiguration of outpatient services and a patient tower with private rooms.  Visit the official website to keep updated on the most current progress.  When I visited their employment section today I saw that there were approximately 69 employment opportunities!  This is great news for area job seekers.

Coal and Coke Music Festival

The Coal and Coke Music Festival that is scheduled at Penn State, Eberly Campus on September 27, 2008.  There are some notable performers scheduled to appear including Harold Betters who is a native of Connellsville, in Fayette County PA.  His career has spanned over 4 decades.  Check out the website at www.CoalandCokeMusicFest.org for more information.
